Are you like me and moved to Bozeman not too long ago? Or maybe just like to explore surrounding towns? Today I decided that a road trip to Red Lodge was in order...Join me to learn more about this town!
When thinking Red Lodge...what is the first thing you think of? Is it skiing? The scenery? The quaint, historic, mountain town? If you ask our kiddos it is skiing AND the candy store! If you want to go skiing checkout Red Lodge Mountain. Nestled within the Beartooth Mountains, Red Lodge Mountain delivers big mountains fun without the big crowds or big price featuring 1,635 acres, 70runs, 6 chair lifts, and the Summit Grizzly Peak at 9,416'. If you want to see a stunning view I would recommend grabbing a Red Lodge Mountain trail map and taking the Paradise chair lift to see the Palisades Rock Formations. A unique feature to the ski area, providing an ancient backdrop to runs along Cole Creek drainage. It is a striking formation and YES I did stop for photos AND videos a couple of times.
Red Lodge is known as the Gateway to Yellowstone Park via the beautiful Beartooth Highway nestled against the Beartooths, Montana's highest mountain peaks, Red Lodge is a place of beauty and, wherever you turn, real smiles, genuine warmth and welcoming, Western-style hospitality is found. Looking for family-style fun? While walking downtown stop at the Montana Candy Emporium you won't regret it! Nostalgic old time candies, handmade delights, and huckleberry originals will fill your candy bag and I admired the vintage bicycles and antique signs. Looking for Winter fun, Western style? The 2022 National Finals Ski-Joring Races were taking place when we were in town. Ski-Joring originated in Scandinavian countries as a form of winter transportation. The west has transformed this into an action packed competition wherein teams of horse, rider and skier negotiate a 700+ foot course, the horse and rider taking a track to the inside of the course while the skier in tow, negotiates 20-some slalom gates and four jumps in hopes of completing two fast, clean runs.
Red Lodge, Montana has a long history with beer. Before the times of Prohibition, Red Lodge Brewing Company made great local beer. Many years later, Sam Hoffmann started Red Lodge Ales Brewing Company in downtown Red Lodge. By using soft, glacial water, heated by a solar thermal array, adding Montana grown and malted barley and naturally cooled by cold Beartooth Mountain air, Red Lodge Ales produces quality beer for beer lovers and a great spot to stop by and have dinner. That all we had time for this time BUT I will be back. Leave a comment below and let me know what your favorite thing to do in Red Lodge is. What did I miss? What is a must do when you are in town? Better yet tell me where to checkout next. Until next time, Diana
