Winter and summer recreation - available June through March
A fun day hike is Trail Creek hike located off of I-90 head south and (Exit 316) on the Trail Creek Road for 3 miles, then east on Goose Creek Road for 2 miles to the locked gate. Parking is available at this point.
On this trailhead are majestic views of the Absaroka Mountains, Yellowstone River and Paradise Valley.
This hike can be a day hike or multi-day hike. The trail will lead you to a quaint cabin, built in 1924. The cabin is located roughly 5.2 miles from the trailhead. It's a fantastic escape from civilization.
The cabin is equipped with a wood stove, horse corral, propane lantern, but NO drinking water is available. There are 2 bunks that sleeps four people. Water must be brought in and unfortunately one cannot depend on any creek water - most times the creek is dried up. The cabin is overseen by the Gallatin National Forest that maintains the firewood supply and overall upkeep.
