Finding a Rental in Bozeman - List of Rental Companies & Our Insider Tips

Do you need to find a rental in Bozeman fast? For those who have not been so lucky to find a place, we hope this guide will help you get that much closer to finding a home!

Is it challenging to find a rental in Bozeman?

The short answer is YES, it very much can be. We live in a wonderful community that is quickly becoming not just a stop for tourists but a permanent home for many out-of-staters. Montana State University combined with the working professionals who are not yet homeowners creates a large number of renters for only a limited supply of actual rentals available.

Timing:

Start your search ASAP. The reality is that there is a limited supply of rentals within city limits and it is very competitive in certain rental price points. Though Bozeman is a very dog-friendly community, there are far fewer rentals that will allow and accept our furry animals. More rental options are West of town, by campus, and those rentals in downtown Bozeman will go for a higher premium.

Facebook:

Good ol' social media connects renters and landlords; visit Bozeman Rentals - Facebook page, Housing / Property for sale or for Rent in Montana are just a few Facebook pages to check out rentals and post your rental needs.

Craigslist:

The Bozeman community is strong on Craigslist and be diligent about checking it daily especially if you are in a time crunch. Always be aware of who you are talking to on the other end and if you visit a rental to do a walkthrough, it is best safe practice to bring a friend/family member with you or text someone the address beforehand.

Word of Mouth:

If you have friends in the community, ask for a favor to ask their co-workers or send an email to their friend group to get the word out you are looking for a place.

Bozeman Library, Montana State University, Co-Op, etc:

Seek out places in town and post an old-fashioned flyer of your rental needs. There are an overwhelming number of places where flyers are allowed. If you post information, be straightforward about what you are looking for and the desired rental amount.

Vacation or Short-Term Rentals:

Bozeman has a large number of vacation rentals. However, our city ordinances have changed and decreased the number of vacation rentals that are allowed. Furthermore, the City of Bozeman requires a homeowner to have a permit to do a short-term rental IF the zoning even allows for it.

Rental Companies / Property Management:

Your first step is to reach out to these companies and let them know exactly what you are looking for including but not limited to timeline, budget, room requirements, any other specifications, etc. Many of these companies require a YEAR-LONG RENTAL AGREEMENT for the majority of the properties they manage.
