Modern homes are very similar to contemporary homes in the sense of bringing old elements and ideas into new designs. These homes are built for functionality but show off the complexity of the overall design and often have an uncommon silhouette of structure. Modern homes love all things linear so it is common to see multiple roof lines at different levels and other bold horizontal or vertical features in forms of beams, posts, cutouts, windows, staircases, and fireplaces.

Much like contemporary style homes, modern homes focus on open floor plans with minimal walls and doors. Modern homes try to have a central meeting point within their great rooms such as a fireplace, but it is also common to see different layer floors within the living areas such as “sunken” floors, creating a central meeting space.

Bozeman is full of modern style homes but they tend to be found more in the newly developed neighborhoods. These homes tend to be more advanced with technologies such as radiant floor heat and building techniques such as construction atop slab concrete foundations, therefore there are less likely to be found in the more historic areas of Bozeman.
